Patellar chondropathy

What is patellar chondropathy?

Patellar chondropathy is a tendon involvement between the patella and the tibia. This tendon is part of the extensor apparatus of the knee.

Its affectation can cause:

  • Pain in the anterior aspect of the knee, which worsens in everyday situations,
  • Sensitivity to palpation of the knee structures.
  • Decreased or limited patellar mobility.
  • Altered muscle function, usually the most common are atrophy of the vastus internus, or hypertonia or shortening of the biceps femoris or iliotibial band, among others, causing joint imbalance and misalignment.

How will we treat this injury?

Through a combination of treatment based on manual therapy, rehabilitation exercises and technology.

For this purpose, Clínica Sohail performs a global assessment beforehand, We will assess which type of treatment is the most appropriate for the patient based on the results of the examination. In a cross-cutting manner, the readaptation team will carry out an intervention through therapeutic exercise

Depending on the degree of injury, and together with the application of technology such as ultrasound-guided percutaneous intratissue electrolysis (EPI), and Echoguided Percutaneous Percutaneous Neuromodulation, Shock waves, Imoove or Magnetic Resonance Therapy (MBST), we will work with a program of control exercises, global postural reeducation (RPG) and/or strength exercises.

The Hyperbaric Chamber can be a great ally in the recovery, thanks to the oxygenation that occurs in the tissues that is produced in the tissues, reduces the recovery times of breaks, wounds, muscle injuries and bone fractures.
