What is lumbosciatica?

Lumbociatalgia is a disorder of the lumbar spine that causes pain in the lower back, accompanied by involvement of the sciatic nerve.

Symptoms:

  • Localized pain in the lumbar region.
  • Feeling of stiffness.
  • Inability or difficulty to bend over.
  • Tingling, weakness and/or altered sensation in one or both legs, following the course of the sciatic nerve or any of the nerve roots that give rise to it.

 

What are the possible causes?

  • Trauma
  • Rheumatic diseases
  • Overexertion
  • Bad postures maintained
  • Diseases of viral origin
  • Weakness or excess tone of the lumbar musculature
  • Herniated disc

 

It is a very common pathology in the population, and the prognosis is usually satisfactory.

 

How is it treated?

First of all, a global, exhaustive and complete assessment of the musculoskeletal and nervous system is carried out, and depending on the results, we evaluate which type of treatment is the most appropriate for the patient. In a cross-cutting manner, the readaptation team will carry out an intervention through therapeutic exercise

Depending on the degree of injury, and together with the application of technology such as ultrasound-guided percutaneous intratissue electrolysis (EPI), and Echoguided Percutaneous Percutaneous Neuromodulation, Shock waves, Imoove or Magnetic Resonance Therapy (MBST), we will work with a program of control exercises, global postural reeducation (RPG) and/or strength exercises.
